IND vs Eng: The fourth Test match between India and England ended on a draw in Manchester, but the drama that was seen on the ground in the last hour made the match memorable. India almost saved the lost bet on the records of Indian batsmen Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar. In the final moments of the match, England captain Ben Stokes put an option to join hands in front of Jadeja for a draw, which Jadeja rejected on the field.
What happened on the field?
During the final session, when 138 overs were over, the umpires indicated to the two teams that the match could be declared a draw if both the captains agree. Stokes went ahead and tried to join hands with Jadeja, but Jadeja was playing for 89 at that time and was only 11 runs away from century. He clearly indicated that they want to continue the game.
What do Test rules say?
Under Rule 12.7.6 of ICC, if both teams feel that there is no possibility of victory in the last hour of the Test match, then they can finish the match with mutual consent, but if a batsman wants to continue the innings, the rule gives him this right.
The match ended after completing the century
Jadeja completed his sixth Test century by hitting a six off Harry Brook’s ball in a few overs. Stokes’s comment on Stump Mike, “Do you want to score a Test century against Harry Brook?” It was also recorded, which cricket lovers shared a lot on social media. After this, Washington Sundar also completed the first Test century of his career. Both players shared a 206 -run partnership for the seventh wicket and played a key role in saving India.
Did former English captain say?
Former English captain Michael Atherton said that Brook’s bowling was ridiculous, but Sundar and Jadeja played a game to score a century.
At the same time, Indian captain Shubman Gill said after the match that the players intended to get their century and keep the team in a strong position.
