On the occasion of International Friendship Day, we take a look at such films where the stories of dying in friendship or becoming a friend’s shield were coined. Bollywood has put the spirit of friendship on screen through many such films, which are full of laughter, tears and sacrifice.

Sholay (1975)- Jai and Veeru’s immortal friendship

Talking about friendship, the ‘3 Idiots’ in the year 2009 cannot be ignored. This film by Rajkumar Hirani is the story of college friendship of Ranchoddas (Aamir Khan), Raju (Sharman Joshi) and Farhan (R. Madhavan). This film not only taunted the education system, but also shows the importance of friendship in a special way. Ranchodadas inspires his friends to choose the right path in life. The multistarrer film ‘Rang De Basanti’ came in the year 2006. This film by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra is a confluence of friendship and patriotism. Adorned with stars like actors Aamir Khan, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Kunal Kapoor and Atul Kulkarni, this story is to inspire a British filmmaker to come to India and make five friends to make a film on the story of freedom fighters.
