After delivery, the woman’s body goes through many changes. Breast feeding is very important for both mother and child during this time, but this process also affects the woman’s hormone level. This is the reason that many women understand that as long as they are feeding the child, they cannot be pregnant. Is it true? Let’s understand the doctor.

Does pregnancy stop breast feeding?

Dr. Kusum Chandra, a gynecologist at Chandra Hospital in Varanasi, told about it in a conversation with Helloswasthya. She says, “If a woman wants to give birth to another child immediately after the first child, it is not possible. Because since delivery, there is no ovulation in the woman’s body for at least three months, so that her periods do not come. That is why the fertility of the woman is affected.”

She further says, “Once periods start correctly, the woman can become pregnant again. However, there should be a difference of at least three years between two children so that both mother and child’s health remains right.”

Breast feeding and ovulation connection

After giving birth to a child, the level of hormone called prolactin in the woman’s body increases. This hormone helps in making milk and also prevents ovulation for some time. Because of this, the woman does not get periods. However, this situation is not always the same. In some women, this effect lasts for 3-6 months, while some may get periods early.

Does breastfeeding give 100 percent protection?

Many people believe that pregnancy cannot occur during breastfeeding, but this is not completely true. As soon as the women’s periods come back, the chances of conception increase. Therefore, if you do not want pregnancy, then it is necessary to use contraception after consulting a doctor.

Why is the gap between children?

Dr. Kusum Chandra advises that there should be a difference of at least three years between two pregnancy. Due to this, the woman’s body is fully recovered and the nutrition of the child is also done in a better way. Planning pregnancy early can have a bad effect on the health of the mother and the risk of nutritional deficiency in the child also increases.

Breast feeding has an effect on fertility, but this effect is not permanent. Once ovulation and periods start, the woman can become pregnant. Therefore, it is very important to consult a doctor for the right time and interval.
