There has been a political stir in Mumbai over the post of General Manager of Brihanmumbai Power Supplies and Transport Undertaking (Best). Actually, SVR After the retirement of Srinivas, two different departments issued orders to hand over additional charges to two different IAS officers for this post.
One order came from the city development department, which is under Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, while the other came from the General Administration Department, which comes under Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The government had to clarify the situation regarding this contradiction.
What is the whole matter?
GM SVR of Best on 31 July 2025 Srinivas retired. After this, the General Administration Department had given him additional charge of the post on 5 February. After retirement, the need to appoint a new GM was revealed.
The Best Workers Union had warned retired personnel to take out the front for not getting gratuity. In this situation, the city development department started the process of handing over the charge of GM to an officer.
Two orders and confusion
Earlier, the process was started by the City Development Department that additional charge of GM would be assigned to Mrs. Ashwini Joshi. But in the meantime, on August 5, the General Administration Department issued an order to give this responsibility to IAS Ashish Sharma.
This led to two orders, one from the department under the Chief Minister and the other from the department under the Deputy Chief Minister, which led to a situation of administrative confusion.
Government clarification
In view of the seriousness of the situation, the Ministry of Urban Development made it clear that no order has been formally issued to hand over the charge of GM to Ashwini Joshi. Only the process was started, but the final decision was not taken. Now that the General Administration Department has appointed Ashish Sharma, the same order will be considered effective.
It became clear from this statement that the confusion between the two ministries arose only due to the parallel of the process.
