Language has always changed with time. Earlier people used to learn new words from books and newspapers, but now internet, social media and mimes have become the real laboratory of language. The biggest proof of this was found recently when the world’s famous Cambridge Dictionary added 6,000 new words to its list simultaneously. Many of these words have come out directly from the Internet world.
Travel from ‘Skibidi’ to Dictionary
A few years ago a YouTube series “Skibidi Toilet” went viral. This strange word, which is spoken again and again in it, became so popular that people started speaking, praise or just like this. Sometimes it means “cool”, sometimes “strange” or sometimes there is no meaning.
The popularity of this word increased so much on social media that it started being used from Hollywood to politics. Famous celebrity Kim Kardashian wrote “Skibidi Toilet” on his jewelery and Australia’s Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in his speech in his speech – “Delulu with no Solulu.”

Some of the new words that Cambridge Dictionary have added have become part of the daily language of youth.
AI and new words from social media
A few months ago, Cambridge added another new word – Slop. Earlier it used to mean the remaining food. But now it is being used for poor quality content on the Internet, especially the content that is made up of AI (Artificial Intelligence).
These words were also included
- Green Flag / Red Flag – To show good or bad qualities on social media.
- Forever Chemical – Such harmful chemicals that live in the environment for a long time.
- Raac – A type of light concrete, which raises questions on the safety of many UK buildings.
Changing face of language
- According to Cambridge University Press, only more than 6,000 new words have been added to the dictionary this year and around 3,200 new words were included last year. This means that English is now changing much faster than ever.
- Social media platforms such as tickets, Instagram and daily mims and trends on YouTube are now becoming part of the language. The words that were just a joke or meme yesterday are making a place in the official dictionary today.
