US President Donald Trump has no longer a plan to come to India for Quad Summit later this year. The relationship between the US President and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is being told in the last few months behind this decision of Donald Trump.
The New York Times has claimed in this regard in a report published on Saturday (30 August 2025). The newspaper published a report titled ‘Nobel Prize and a difficult phone call: Trump-Modi Relations Definition’. In this, citing people familiar with Trump’s program, he said, “After telling Modi that he will travel to India for the Quad Summit later this year, Trump has no plan to go to India in the autumn.” However, no official reaction has been revealed from India regarding this claim.
India is hosting a quad summit
India is going to host the Quad summit later this year. The Trump administration hosted a meeting of quad foreign ministers in January 2025 this year. A day earlier, on January 20, 2025, Trump took the oath of office for a second term in the White House.
Trump claims several times to stop Indo-Pak struggle, India denied
Amidst trade tension between India and the United States, New York Times explained how Trump and Modi’s relations deteriorated after repeated claims of trump of arbitration in a four-day military clash between India and Pakistan. However, India denied this claim.
According to the report, ‘Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi got angry with the repeated claims of President Trump to resolve the India-Pakistan struggle and this was just the beginning. It claimed that Modi’s patience towards Trump is responding. Trump and Modi spoke over the phone on 17 June, it was a 35 -minute phone call, which took place after Trump returned to Washington from the G7 Summit in Canada. Prime Minister Modi also attended that conference.
According to the report, Modi and Trump had a meeting to meet during the G7 leaders summit in Canada, Canada, but Trump soon returned to Washington. Before leaving Kananaskis and finishing his first Canada visit in a decade, Modi spoke to Trump in Washington over the phone. During the phone conversation on 17 June, Trump again said how proud to end the military conflict and he mentioned that Pakistan is going to nominate him for the Nobel Peace Prize. According to the people who are aware of this development, the clear implication of this was that Modi should do the same and the Trump should also be nominated for Nobel.
Modi clarified, Trump has no role in ceasefire with Pakistan
According to the report, ‘Indian leaders were enraged by that statement of the American leader. He told Trump that America’s involvement in the recent ceasefire has nothing to do. This was decided directly between India and Pakistan. Trump ignored Modi’s comments to a great extent, but disagreement and refusal to talk on the Nobel Prize by Modi has played a big role in creating a sour in the relationship between the two leaders. There was once a close relationship between them and who had been going from Trump’s first term.
Trump repeated claims 40 times over Indo-Pakistani ceasefire
The New York Times wrote in its report that the White House did not accept the June 17 conversation nor did Trump give any information about it on his social media handle. Trump has repeated his claim to stop the conflict between India and Pakistan since May 10.
According to the report, since Trump has imposed an additional 25 percent fee on India for the purchase of Russian oil, it seems to be a special huge penalty on India for not being involved in the discourse rather than any kind of consolidated effort to reduce business deficit or cut money for Putin’s war.
