China has announced a strategic partnership with India’s close friend Armenia. The meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Sangathan Summit (SCO Summit) and the Japanese invasion, with Nicole Pashinayan, who came to China for the 80th anniversary of the Chinese Public Resistance War, is a big blow for India.
Actually Armenia has been one of India’s largest weapon buyers for the last several years. In such a situation, India’s defense sector is feared to be shocked by China’s strategic partnership. A few days ago, Armenian Foreign Minister Arrat Mirzoyan had said that his country wants to deepen relations with China without any border. Armenia’s friendship with China is being seen as an attempt to diversify foreign policy from Russia after the Nagorno-Karkabakh war.
Jinping meets Pashinayan
Chinese government media CCTV reported that Chinese President Xi Jinping met Armenian Prime Minister Nicole Pasinayana at the Theinchin Guest House. The two leaders announced the establishment of a strategic partnership. Jinping told Pashinayana that China and Armenia should strongly support each other and deepen cooperation in all areas.
Emphasis on joint construction of belt and road initiative
Jinping emphasized that both sides should jointly construct the belt and road initiative with high quality, strengthening the contact. Armenia Prime Minister Pashinayana said that China has made unprecedented progress under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and Armenia hopes to learn from China to promote its economic and social development.
Crores of dollars defense agreement in India and Armenia
India and Armenia have made crores of dollars defense agreements in the last few years. Due to this, Armenia’s military strength has increased manifold compared to before. The Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC) report states that Armenia has signed a defense contracts of about $ 1.5 billion with India between 2022 and 2023. Armenia has purchased 214 mm Pinaka Multiple Rocket Launcher, 155 mm ATAGS Artillery System, ZADS counter-drain system, Akash-1 S and Akash-NG Air Defense System from India.
