Agricultural experts say that strawberry cultivation can prove to be very beneficial with some hard work and right technology. Farmers just need to understand when, where and how it should be cultivated. September to November is considered best for strawberry cultivation. During this time the weather starts to cool down, due to which the roots of the plants are rapidly freezing and their growth is good.

Strawberries like sandy loam soil the most. If the pH level of the soil is between 5.7 to 6.5, then the plants grow rapidly and the fruits are also better. Many varieties of strawberries are popular in India. Among them, Camarosa, Charlie Chandler and Winter Don are grown the most. The specialty of these varieties is that they give more production and are easily sold in the market.

It is necessary to do deep plowing of the field before starting farming. After this, 20 to 25 tonnes of cow dung should be mixed in the field. It makes the soil fertile and gives early nutrition to plants.

When planting plants, keep in mind that they should be planted at a distance of 30 centimeters × 60 cm. This gives every plant a place to spread and grow. The most important thing is that the crown (middle part) of the plant should remain on the soil surface, so that the growth of the plant is not affected.

Light irrigation has to be done regularly after the new transplanting. Mulching is necessary to maintain water moisture and stop weed. In this, the field is covered with straw or black plastic. This keeps the soil cold and plants also provide protection from frost.

It is very important to give proper nutrition to strawberry plants. According to experts, giving 8 to 10 kg of nitrogen, 16 to 20 kg phosphorus and 24 to 32 kg of potash increases yield and the taste of fruit is also better.

If the farmers do farming carefully, then the yield of strawberries can be found from 30 to 50 quintals per acre. It costs about 2 to 2.5 lakh rupees in one acre. But if the market gets a good price, farmers can easily earn profits of 4 to 5 lakh rupees per acre.
