Nagarkot in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is an ancient hill city. Vajraswari Siddhpeeth located here is considered one of the 51 Shaktipeeths of Goddess Durga. It is believed that this temple was established by the Pandavas. From time to time, the temple was destroyed several times and was rebuilt several times. For centuries, devotees from all over the country come to see the goddess and it is believed that Mother accepts her prayers.
A special stone panel and right part of Dhyanu Bhagat are found in front of the temple’s sabhamandap, in which they are seen with their heads with their heads. This statue is associated with the wonderful story in which the miracle of the Goddess appeared in front of his devotion and Akbar. Historian Dr. Mohanlal Gupta has mentioned this. Dhyanu Bhagat and Akbar face
According to the story, during the reign of Mughal emperor Akbar, Dhyanu Bhagat, a resident of the plains of Braj Pradesh, went out to visit Jwala Devi with a thousand passengers. Seeing such a large number, Akbar’s soldiers stopped him and presented him in the court of the emperor. When Akbar asked, Dhyanu Bhagat said that he is going to see Mata Jwala, who is the follower of the world and fulfills the wishes of the devotees. He also said that in his temple, without oil and light, the unbroken light keeps on burning. Akbar decided to test his devotion. He cut the neck of Dhyanu’s horse and said that if his mother is really powerful then make the horse alive. Dhyanu promised that he would pray to the goddess and if the horse is not alive, he would offer his head himself.
Goddess’s miracle and power of devotion
Dhyanu Bhagat reached Jwala Devi temple and prayed to mother. When the goddess did not answer immediately, she cut off her head with a sword and offered it. The story is that at the same moment the mother appeared and Dhyanu’s head again connected to the torso. The horse also became alive. Devi told Dhyanu to ask for a bride. Dhyanu requested that mother should not take a hard test of her devotees and fulfill his wishes only through coconut offering and true prayer. This tradition has been going on since then.
Story of Akbar’s examination and umbrella
On the other hand, even when Akbar got the news of the horse being alive, he could not believe it. He put a pan on the light of the temple and put water from the canal, but the flame was not extinguished. Akbar then offered a umbrella (umbrella) of gold to the goddess. But after reaching the temple, the umbrella fell from his hand and he turned into an unknown metal. Akbar understood that the goddess had rejected her meeting. This fragmented umbrella is still kept safe in the Jwala Devi temple and thousands of devotees watch it with reverence.
Dhyanu Bhagat’s tradition is still alive
Statues of Dhyanu Bhagat are still present in the Nagarkot temple. His descendants revolve around the temple of Mother by tying iron chains on their body for the last 500 years and wearing peacock feathers. This tradition symbolizes the belief that his ancestor was once brought to the temple by tying them in iron chains.
