Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba indicated on Sunday (7 September) that he was about to leave the post. He has taken this decision after increasing criticism from within his own party and a crushing defeat in the July parliamentary election. According to Japanese TV reports, party leaders demanded him to take political responsibility.

Ishiba took over as the Prime Minister in October last year. However, for the past one month, he was facing pressure to resign from the right -wing faction of the party, but he was constantly opposing this demand.
