Waqf amendment bill 2025: To pass the Waqf Amendment Bill, it will be considered in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, which has prepared a stage of conflict between the opposition condemning the government and the proposed law to pass the proposed law as unconstitutional. It is expected to be discussed in Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Eight-eight hours have been allotted to discuss the proposed law in both houses.
The four biggest components after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)- Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Janata Dal-United (JDU), Shiv Sena and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas)- have asked their MPs to support the government’s stance.
Demand for more changes in the bill
Sources said that some BJP allies are demanding further changes in the bill. A senior member of a BJP ally party hoped that the BJP would take into account his views. He insisted that some of his concerns have been diagnosed by the Joint Committee of Parliament and the NDA will remain united on this issue.
Kiren Rijiju said this
Union Minorities and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Reijiju said that in the meeting of the House’s Working Committee (BAC) headed by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, it was agreed to discuss this bill for eight hours which can be and can be increased in accordance with the spirit of the House. In the meeting, initial signs of sharp dispute between the ruling and the opposition were seen in the meeting when members of the opposition coalition ‘India’ walked out of the meeting and accused the government of pressing their voice.
However, the deadlock on this issue does not seem to make any difference because the ruling BJP -led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the Lok Sabha is numberable. In the Lok Sabha, Congress Deputy Leader Gaurav Gogoi alleged that his voice was not being heard. He said that the opposition parties were demanding to allocate more time for discussion and wanted to discuss issues like Manipur’s status in the House and controversy related to voter ID card.
Gaurav Gogoi said this
Gaurav Gogoi said that in the BAC meeting, there was a fierce clash between the government and the opposition and the leaders of the opposition parties left the meeting and came out. Kiren Rijiju said that many parties wanted four to six hours of discussion, while the members of the opposition parties were adamant on discussing 12 hours. He said that this period can be extended according to the spirit of the House. Later, the BAC meeting of the Rajya Sabha was held, in which it was decided that the bill will be discussed on Thursday and it is expected that by then the bill will be approved from the lower house.
Asaduddin Owaisi told ‘unconstitutional’
AIMIM member of the bill Asaduddin Owaisi said that he will tell how it is ‘unconstitutional’ during the discussion on this bill in the House. He alleged that the bill has been brought for the purpose of controlling the religious rights of Muslims and the public will teach a lesson to BJP allies like TDP and JD (U).
The NDA has 293 MPs out of 542 members in the Lok Sabha and the BJP has been successful in getting the support of some independent members on several occasions. According to official sources, big ally like TDP, JDU and Chirag Paswan -led Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) initially objected to some aspects of the bill, but they can support the bill after some of their suggestions were adopted by the Joint Committee of Parliament.
The Catholic Bishops Conference of India, the Church of India on Tuesday expressed support for the bill, which showed the government’s efforts to defy the opposition’s efforts to show the proposed law to the opposition’s effort to show its part of the alleged comprehensive minority agenda. While presenting the bill last year, the government proposed to send it to a joint committee of both houses. After the report was submitted by the committee, the Union Cabinet approved some changes in the original bill based on its recommendation.
