Everyone is crazy about the voice of Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika. Each of his notes, every speech directly touches the heart. People used to call him Bhupen Da with love. He was a brilliant singer and the best musician. There were hidden pain, love, truth of society and messages in his songs. Bhupen Hazarika was born on 8 September 1926 in Sadia village of Assam. He loved music since childhood.
Music journey started with lullabies
His mother used to narrate traditional lullabies to him, and from there the flame of music was burnt in his heart. He used to write his songs himself, make his music and then sing them. Every song of his used to think, raised a question, or put deep pain in front.
One of his most famous songs is ‘Dil Hum Hum Hum Kare, Ghabaaye …’. The song is from the film ‘Rudali’ and it was composed by Bhupen Da himself. In this song, the restlessness, pain and loneliness of the heart have been said in such a simple but effective words that the eyes become moist on hearing. The voice of Lata Mangeshkar and Bhupen Da together made this song memorable.
