More than 300 lions have died in Gujarat in the last two years. State Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera told the state assembly that at least 307 lions have died in the last two years and 41 of them died due to unnatural reasons. Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera told the House, “141 lions died between August 2023 and July 2024, while 166 lions were reported dead between August 2024 and July 2025. Out of these 307 lions, 41 were killed for unnatural reasons. ”He also said that 20 lions died after falling into the wells, while 9 other reservoirs were drowned.
Steps to prevent unnatural deaths of lions
Giving information, the Minister of Gujarat further said, “Other reasons include natural disaster (two lions), road accidents (two), train crushing (five) and electric shock (three).” The minister said that the state government has taken various steps to stop the unnatural deaths of the lions, such as installing centers for the treatment of wild animals at various places, appointment of wild animals and starting an ambulance service for the treatment of animals at various places.
