A Brazilian Supreme Court panel sentenced former President Jair Bolsonaro to 27 years and three months in jail on Thursday (September 11, 2025). He hatched a coup of the coup to remain in power despite losing in the 2022 election, on which he has now been punished. Bolsonaro is currently under house arrest in Brasilia and he can appeal against this decision.
Four of the five judges of the Supreme Court assumed guilty
Four of the five judges of the Supreme Court have found Bolsonaro guilty of five different allegations. Reacting to the matter on the matter, US President Donald Trump said that he is very unhappy with this conviction. Talking to the media from the White House, he said that he is always considered a Bolsonaro as an excellent leader. Here, the Supreme Court had already won a majority of three votes on Thursday (September 11), which was required to convict Bolsonaro on charges of conspiring for the coup. After this step, the sentence of long jail was almost decided.
How many years will Jair Bolsonaro get punishment?
Judge Carmen Lucia found the 70 -year -old former President convicted for conspiracy to gain power and ‘Criminal Organization’. However, he has not yet voted on the remaining four allegations. If Bolsonaro is found guilty on all five allegations, then he can be sentenced to jail of more than 40 years.
Bolsonaro has always said that he is a victim of political oppression. His colleague and US President Donald Trump termed the case as ‘Witch Hunt’ and imposed 50% tariffs on several items imported from Brazil. Bolsonaro’s sentence will be considered final only when the fifth and final judge’s decision will also come.
