Us-India Trade Dispute: US President Donald Trump on Friday (September 12, 2025) admitted that the 50 percent tariff imposed on India has led to differences between the two countries. In a statement made in the White House, Trump said that it was not an easy task to impose 50 percent tariff on India.
Actually, the Trump administration has imposed 50 percent tariff on India due to buying Russian oil. This includes 25 percent general tariff and 25 percent additional penalty.
‘Both countries are close to agreement’
US President Donald Trump has nominated Sergio Gore for the post of Ambassador to India. Gor said that the US has called an Indian delegation to visit Washington next week and both countries are close to an agreement. He said, “We are interacting with Indian leaders. The President has invited India’s Commerce and Trade Ministers to meet next week. During this time he will also meet Ambassador Greer. An important agreement will be discussed in this meeting. We are no longer far from the agreement and only his nuances are going on.”
‘America is committed to quad group’
Sergio Gor also reiterated that the US is fully committed to the quad group (India, America, Japan and Australia). He said that this group is very important and indicated that President Trump could come to India to attend the Quad Summit to be held in India later this year.
Gore further said, “President is fully prepared to continue the quad meetings and strengthen it. He has already been conversed on his journey for the next quad meeting.” Recently, positive messages were exchanged between the two leaders on social media, which indicates improvement in relations.
