High blood pressure: High blood pressure or hypertension is one of the world’s largest health problems today. This disease not only affects crores of people but is also the biggest cause of serious diseases like heart attack and stroke. Most people control blood pressure with medicines and healthy lifestyle, but there are some patients whose blood pressure does not come under control even after many medicines. This is called drug-resistant high blood pressure in medical language.

What does new research say?

Scientists at the University of Maine, USA, found in their study that some special B vitamins can help in controlling blood pressure. These include –

  • Vitamin B6
  • Vitamin B12
  • folic acid
  • Riboflavin (b2)

According to research, if patients with drug-resident hypertension take these vitamins in the right amount, then their blood pressure can be reduced by 6 to 13 mmhg.

How many people are affected?

According to an estimate, about 12.8 percent of the people worldwide are struggling with drug-resistant high blood pressure. Doctors say that normal blood pressure should be less than 140/90 mmhg. According to the new guideline, it is even better to keep it below 130/80 MMHG. But this proves more difficult for drug-resistant patients.

How do B vitamins show effects?

  • A substance called homocysteine is formed in our body.
  • If there is a deficiency of B vitamin in the body, then its level increases.
  • More Homocysteine damages the veins of blood and shrinks them.

Due to this, blood pressure starts increasing rapidly.

Research has proved that taking B vitamin in the right amount can reduce the level of homocysteine, which relaxes the veins and comes down the blood pressure.

What is screw?

There is still a debate among doctors that how much the normal level of Homocysteine should be. Some doctors consider to be fine up to 11.4 μmol/l, while some say it should be 10 μmol/l or even less. This is the reason why the effect of B vitamin can vary for every patient.

Can everyone take B vitamin?

B vitamins are necessary to keep the body and heart healthy. But this does not mean that everyone starts taking supplement on their own free will.

  • The advice of a doctor is necessary before starting any kind of supplement.
  • Every person’s body reacts differently.
  • B vitamins can prove to be more effective in collaboration with medicines, exercise and healthy diet.

This research raises a new hope. B vitamins can be a cheaper, safe and natural option for patients who are not controlled by blood pressure medicines. In the coming time, this method can become an important part of high blood pressure treatment. At the moment, it would be right to say that if patients struggling with high blood pressure, if you use B vitamins under the supervision of a doctor, then it can prove beneficial for them.
