There is good news for those who buy electric vehicles in Odisha. The state government has decided to increase subsidy on electric two-wheelers. Now customers will get subsidy of up to Rs 30,000, whereas earlier it was just Rs 20,000. This change has been made under the new draft EV Policy 2025. After getting suggestions from the industry, this policy will be implemented and will continue for the next five years. Let’s know in detail.

How to get subsidy?

  • According to the new policy, subsidy will be given at Rs 5,000 per kWh battery capacity. Its maximum limit will be 30,000. The government believes that now electric scooters and bikes with more battery capacity have come in the market, so it is necessary to increase subsidy. Customers will get direct benefit of this and the sale of electric vehicles will also increase rapidly.

Not only two-wheelers, cars and buses also benefit

  • In this new EV policy of Odisha, not only scooters and bikes, but also the other vehicles will also get the benefit of subsidy. Electric cars and taxis will now get subsidy up to 2 lakhs, which was earlier 1.50 lakhs. At the same time, the government will give subsidy of up to 20 lakhs on purchasing electric bus. Trucks and three-wheelers will also come under the purview of this policy. It is clear that the government is insisting on electricing the entire transport sector.

Who will benefit people?

  • According to the information, only permanent people of Odisha will be able to take advantage of this subsidy. Also, every person will be able to claim incentives only once in a vehicle segment. Apart from this, the government has also announced to separate the Rs 15 crore fund for R&D (Research and Development), so that electric vehicle technology can be further promoted in the state. Let us know that in the 2021 policy, Odisha had set a target of 20% EV registration in four years, but till now it has reached only 9%. This time the government has targeted that by 2030, 50% new vehicles will be electric.
