H-1B visa now 88 lakhs … New update on Trump’s decision, America said- rules apply only to new applications

US President Donald Trump increased the fee of H-1B (H-1B) visa to one lakh dollars (about 88 lakhs in Indian rupees). Since this decision of Trump, there has been an atmosphere of chaos among all Indians working in IT companies.

American official gave new information
Amidst the increase in the application fee of H-1B visa, an American official has made it clear that Indians do not need to panic. The US official said on Saturday, “Indians living on H-1B visas have no need to return to America by Sunday nor will they have to pay 1 million dollars to come again.” The official clarified that this new rule of the Trump government will apply only to the new visa application. This new fee will not be applicable to those who already have a H-1B visa or who are renewing their visa.

An atmosphere of panic among people
After the announcement of US President Donald Trump’s announcement to the H-1B visa fees to $ 1 lakh annually, there was a huge panic in the Indian community. Its effect was also seen at the airports, where many passengers got off the aircraft due to fear. Indian passengers had boarded a flight in Emirates at San Francisco International Airport. Then the news of increasing H-1B visa fees spread. After this, the passengers panicked and started demanding to get off the plane.

India’s response to Trump’s decision
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (Mea) said that the government is studying the impact of this decision. It also includes the Indian industry, which has already introduced initial analysis on it and has cleared many misconceptions about the H-1B visa. The ministry said that both India and America are partners in innovation and creativity. Therefore, it is expected that the two countries will discuss together on the way forward. India also said that the movement of skilled professionals contributes significantly in technological development, innovation, economic growth and increasing competition.

What did experts say?
Mohandas Pai, former Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Infosys, dismissed the notion that companies use H-1B visas to send cheap workers to the US. He said that the average salary paid by the top 20 H-1B employers to employees is already more than US $ 1 lakh. Pai described President Trump’s statements as ‘absurd rhetoric’. Former NITI Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant said that this increase in H-1B visa fee will harm America’s innovation ecosystem. But he also added that this will now move towards the laboratory, patent and startup of the next wave towards India, especially towards cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad. According to him, the closure of America’s doors for global talent will give new pace to the technical cities of India and India can become the center of innovation.

How will India affect?
Many experts believe that American companies will now do more work in countries like India. This may further intensify IT sector activities in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune and Gurugram. But the other aspect of this is that thousands of Indians will dream of going to America and making a career.
