The Haryana government has extended the period of rice distribution from 15 March to 30 June on Saturday (September 20). Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said that about 1,000 rice mills of the state will directly benefit from this step. He said that the mill owners will get a relief of about Rs 50 crore in the holding fee.
Demand for mills recognition
The Chief Minister said that the Haryana Rice Millors Association had informed the government that the Food Corporation of India (FCI) delayed the delivery of rice by about 45 days. Because of this, the mill owners were unable to complete their work within the stipulated time.
The government has extended the bonus eligibility period from March 15 to June 30, considering this demand as correct. Also, the duration of rice distribution for mill owners has also been extended till June 30.
Government’s decision in the interest of farmers
Saini said that the state government has always been committed to protect the interest of farmers. In this direction, government procurement of paddy this year will start from September 22 instead of October 1.
The Chief Minister also made it clear that the Congress party is trying to mislead the farmers, claiming that the BJP government will end the MSP system.
Constant increase in MSP
The Chief Minister said that the government has steadily increased MSP on crops. In the year 2014, the MSP of general paddy was Rs 1,360 per quintal, which has now increased to Rs 2,369 per quintal. Similarly, Grade-A paddy MSP has increased from Rs 1,400 per quintal to Rs 2,389 per quintal.
Saini appealed to the farmers to understand the steps taken by the government and should not come into any rumor. He also said that the mills will be given all necessary help to ensure timely ensure rice distribution.
