The Supreme Court heard the ban on firecrackers in Delhi-NCR on Thursday (April 3, 2025). The court was told that pollution has reduced by 30 % due to ban on firecrackers. On this, the people who filed the application started claiming that the air is purified by the sulfur of firecrackers. The judge reprimanded him on this matter and said that you are a bigger expert.
The Supreme Court has upheld the ban on burning firecrackers in Delhi NCR. The court has also refused to relax the production, storage and sale of firecrackers. The court says that the level of air pollution in Delhi was in a worrying situation for a long time.
Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan were hearing on the bench case. The companies making the footcrackers told the court that work is being done to improve the quality. Regarding green firecrackers, the court said that according to the central government report, green firecrackers make only 30 % less pollution than other firecrackers. The court was not satisfied with these arguments and retained the ban on firecrackers for the whole year. At the same time, a petitioner claimed that firecrackers are being banned at the behest of foreign agencies. The sulfur present in firecrackers helps to purify the air.
The judges expressed surprise at this argument of the petitioner and said, ‘Are you bigger experts than Neeri? Come on 2 o’clock, we will hear you for some time too. After this, the court postponed the hearing till 2 pm. The application filed, accused MC Mehta, the chief petitioner in the pollution case and also accused people of other organizations of eating donations from anti -India foreign institutions. The judges dismissed the application and said that this is your first such act, so we are not imposing a fine.
The court said that how air pollution is affecting people, it can be estimated. It is not possible for every human being to put an air purifier in the house or office. The bench said that there is also a section of the society that works on the streets and pollution affects these people in the most and dangerous way. The court said that Article 21 of the Constitution also talks about the right to health, so every person has the right to live in a pollution -free environment.
