Professor Sunita Mishra, Vice Chancellor of Mohanlal Sukhadia University (MLSU) located in Udaipur, Rajasthan, has been in controversy for the past few days. Actually, he called the Mughal ruler Aurangzeb a “skilled administrator” in his statement during a seminar. After this comment, protest started across the state.

Especially the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and the National Rajput Karni Sena opened a front against him. The protest increased so much that Prof. Mishra had to publicly apologize. He said that Rajasthan is the land of heroes and it is the land of Maharana Pratap.

How did the controversy start?

The whole matter started at a seminar on 12 September. Professor Sunita Mishra compared Aurangzeb’s administrative capabilities to historical great Maharana Pratap and Prithviraj Chauhan. This comment passed very much to Mewar and Rajput society. The Karni Sena called it an insult to the heroes and said that it is unacceptable to compare Maharana Pratap, who is worshiped in Udaipur division, who has damaged Hinduism and culture. As the protest increased, there was a demand for his resignation.

Who is Prof. Sunita Mishra?

Pro. Sunita Mishra is currently the Vice Chancellor of MLSU in Udaipur. She is originally from Odisha and is counted among the well-known academics of the country. In the year 2023, he was appointed by the then Governor Kalraj Mishra. Earlier, she was working as Dean at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University in Lucknow.

She completed her studies from Rama Devi Women’s College (now University) of Bhubaneswar and Shailbala Women’s College in Cuttack. According to media reports, her husband Satya Narayan is an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer.

Education and career

Pro. Mishra’s educational journey has been very long and impressive. From 1991 to 1997, she taught her at Barahampur Government Women’s College, Odisha and SB Women’s College, Cuttack. He then spent a long term at Banaras Hindu University and Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow.

Professor Mishra, who has a teaching experience of more than 32 years, has worked as a professor and dean for about 15 years. He has written 23 books, guided 20 PhD students and also acquired two patents in food technology.

What are the achievements?

Pro. Sunita Mishra was awarded the Nobel Prize winner in the US in 2008. So far, he has published more than 400 research papers. In the last decade, he has also led many important committees of UGC and NAAC. Also, she has also been associated with the United Nations World Food Program. Pro. Talking about Sunita’s salary, according to the report, she gets salary from 1 lakh 82 thousand rupees to 2 lakh 10 thousand rupees.

Apologies on dispute

On Wednesday, Professor Mishra released a video message and regretted his statement. He clearly said that his aim was not to insult the historical heritage of Mewar or Rajasthan in any way. He specifically apologized to the people of Mewar and said that Rajasthan is the land of heroes, where warriors like Maharana Pratap were born.
