Many important decisions were taken in the meeting of Delhi Jal Board on Friday (26 September). It has been decided that the Delhi government is completely forgiving the late charge on the outstanding bill. Delhi Water Minister Pravesh Verma said that bills of millions of people were coming because the interest rate on it was 5 percent, that too used to become a compound, i.e. 100 dues of 100. We have decided that now only 2% will be interest on the outstanding bill. The outstanding bill will be deposited by 31 January, it will have 100 percent discount on late charge and 70 percent discount on depositing by 31 March.
90 percent late payment charge in total outstanding bills- Minister
Delhi’s Water Minister Pravesh Verma further said, “When the interest rate was high, the person did not pay the bill and waited for the government to forgive the bill. The Delhi government has to collect a total of 87589 crore dues, in which the total outstanding outstanding of water is Rs 7125 crore and the late charge is Rs 80463 crore, that is, the total outstanding bills have 90 percent dues and the late payment charge.
Where is the rebate in 100 percent late payment charge applied?
He also said, “Now in the office of the registrar of Delhi, we will now make such arrangements that water bills should also be sought along with electricity bills. At present, 100 percent late payment charge in arrears will be waived in the outstanding bills of government and houses. Late payment in commercial will not be forgiven, how much will be done later.
How many rupees will be paid for valid connection of water now?
Minister Pravesh Verma said, “If a person had taken an illegal water connection, then earlier he had to pay 26 thousand rupees for a valid connection, but now only 1 thousand would have to be given. However, it will be applicable only till 1 thousand March. The Delhi government will take cognizance of complaints by setting up camp, which is complained that the bill is wrong. Right now the installation charge to invest 8 thousand rupees meter is there, now private license holders will decide his charge.
He said that the feature of late payment charge exemption took 6 months to add Delhi Jal Board software. Now if a commercial unit had taken the connection of illegal water, then earlier it would have to pay 61 thousand 56 rupees for a valid connection, but now only 5 thousand rupees have to be given. However, it will be applicable only till 5 thousand March.
‘1 lakh people applied for water meter’
Delhi’s Water Minister further said, “For those who want to install their meters, first thousand plumbs were given licenses in Delhi, then there were only 250 left. After that, a policy was made again that the Jal Board will install meters. Now we will increase the number again and will talk to ITI and Polytechnic College and will give license. In Delhi, 1 lakh people have applied for water meters but are not able to impose due to pendency, due to which there is a loss of Rs 51 crore.
