There is good news for engineering students and youth preparing for government jobs. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification of Engineering Service Exam (ESE) 2026. With this, the application process has also started. Interested candidates can apply online by visiting the official website of the Commission upsconline.nic.in.
In this examination, the same candidates can apply who have earned a graduation degree in engineering. Apart from this, the final year students can also participate in it, but they have to submit their degree certificate before the Mains Examination or Interview.
Age limit
The minimum age of the candidate applying in this examination should be 21 years and maximum age should be 30 years. However, candidates of reserved category will be given exemption in maximum age limit as per government rules.
Selection process
UPSC Engineering Service Exam is completed in three stages. First of all, candidates will have to take prelims exam, in which objective type questions will be asked. This is followed by the second phase Mains exam, which has detailed questions related to the subject. Finally, the candidates who pass both the exams are called for interview or personality test. The candidate is appointed only after successfully completing these three stages.
Application fee
To apply in this examination, the general category and OBC candidates will have to pay a fee of Rs 200. Whereas women candidates, candidates of SC, ST and Divyang class will not be charged any kind of fee. Fees can be paid through online only.
Exam pattern
The prelims exam will be in two papers. The first paper will be based on General Studies and Engineering Aptitude, while the second paper will be related to the engineering branch of the candidate. Intensive questions related to the subject will be asked in Mains Examination. After this, the interview will be organized.

First the candidates go to upsconline.nic.in. Click on the “Examination Notices” section here. After this, select the link of “Engineering Services (Preliminary) Examination, 2026”. First of all, read the entire notification carefully and then click on New Registration. After this, login and fill the remaining details. Upload passport size photos, signature and other important documents. After choosing the examination center, submit the prescribed fee and submit the form. Finally, take out its printout and save it with you.
