Asha Parekh was born on 2 October 1942 in a middle class family in Gujarat. His father was a Hindu Gujarati and mother was a Muslim. Since childhood, Asha was interested in dance and her mother recognized this hobby and got her classical dance training. Asha Parekh was a trend Kathak dancer and started performing on stage at a young age. His inclination towards films was also due to dance.

Asha Parekh had taken a step in the film world as a child artist, but she got the real identity from the 1959 film ‘Dil De Ke Dekho’, in which she appeared with Shammi Kapoor. The tremendous success of this film made him a star overnight. After this, Asha Parekh never looked back. His acting in films like ‘Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hai Hai’, ‘Third Manzil’, ‘Kati Kite’, ‘Love in Tokyo’, ‘Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke’, ‘Aan Milo Sajna’, ‘Do Badan’, and ‘Caravan’ made him one of the top actresses of the industry.

After distance from acting, he started his dance academy and contributed to the promotion of Bharatanatyam.

Asha Parekh did not marry

His personal life, however, was not as happy as his professional career. He never married. She had told in an interview that she was in love with filmmaker Nasir Hussain, but she was already married. Asha Parekh never wanted to build her relationship by breaking someone’s house, so she chose to be single. He also said that he has no regrets of his decision and he is also happy in private.

Asha Parekh was awarded several prestigious awards for her brilliant career. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1992. Apart from this, he was also awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honor of Hindi cinema in 2020, which is a symbol of his decades contribution.
