After the death of 9 children in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, the state government has taken a big step. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has banned the sale of Coldrif Cuff Syrup across the state. This incident has shocked the entire state. Taking immediate action, the government has started investigating the syrup making company and its products.
Taking a tough stance in the matter, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said that, “The death of children due to Coldrif Syrup in Chhindwara is extremely tragic. The sale of this syrup has been banned throughout Madhya Pradesh.” He further said that the sale of other products of the syrup making company is also being banned. This syrup is produced in a factory located in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu.
CM said that the syrup making factory is in Kanchipuram, so after the incident came to the notice, the state government had asked the Tamil Nadu government to investigate. The investigation report was received this morning. Based on the report, strict action has been taken.
Investigation team active at local and state level
The CM said that after the sad death of the children, action was going on at the local level. At the state level too, a team has been formed to investigate this matter. The culprits will not be spared at any cost.
Deg quantity more than the prescribed limit
The Union Health Ministry has also released information in this matter. According to the Ministry, the investigation of 6 samples taken by CDSCO (Central Drug Standards Control Organization) did not find DEG/EG (Diethylene Glycol/Ethylene Glycol).
At the same time, 3 of the 13 samples taken by Madhya Pradesh FDA were examined and they were also found free from DEG/EG. However, when Tamil Nadu FDA took samples of Coldrif Syrup from Sresan Pharma in Kanchipuram, the report on 3 October 2025 found the Deg volume above the permissible limit.
Ongoing investigation and sample testing in 6 states
In view of the seriousness of the case, investigation has been started on manufacturing sites of 19 drugs across the country. This investigation is being done under the “Risk-Based Inspection”, so that there is no flaw in the quality of medicines. Also, NIV (National Institute of Virology), ICMR, Neeri, CDSCO and AIIMS have reached the multi-disciplinary team Chhindwara and surrounding areas of Nagpur. This team is trying to find out the real causes of the deaths of children.
This incident of Chhindwara once again questions the quality control system of pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. Investigation is going on at both the state government and the center levels, and there may be more big revelations on it in the coming days.
