There is a period of major changes in Indian cricket. The first captaincy was assigned to Shubman Gill and now BCCI has taken a tough stand on the two most experienced players of the team Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The board has made it clear that if these two giants do not play domestic cricket even further, then they will not be included in the selection of World Cup 2027.
‘The same rule for every player’, Agarkar
Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said in the press conference on 5 October that the selection process will now be completely based on performance. He said, “We have clearly told the players that when they are not on international duty, they will have to play domestic cricket. This rule is applicable to all.”
Agarkar also added that tournaments like Vijay Hazare Trophy will now become an important basis for selection. That is, not just the name or experience, but the recent performance on the field will decide the place of the players.
Now ‘excuse for rest will not be found’
In the last few years, Virat and Rohit have often been seen taking rest or break. During this time he stayed away from domestic tournaments, while the young players continued to work hard to make their place there, but now BCCI has made it clear that any player, no matter how big name it is, cannot distance from domestic cricket.
The path of World Cup 2027 will be difficult
To play in World Cup 2027, now Virat and Rohit will have to prove themselves with their game again. Both players are now active only in ODI format, as they have already retired from Test and T20 cricket. In such a situation, their entire focus will be on limited overs, but the message of the selectors is clear that not the seniority, the performance is the passport to join the team.
BCCI signal
The captaincy wants to give a message to Shubman Gill by giving Shubman Gill and adopting a strict selection policy that now the future of Indian cricket will be in the hands of young and fit players. This decision may be shocking for the fans, but this will increase competition and transparency in the Indian team.
