IPL 2025: Tilak Verma’s retired out is being discussed a lot, fans are strongly criticizing this decision of Mumbai Indians. However, this decision was taken when Tilak was seen struggling in batting. In the last overs, when the team wanted a big hit, Tilak was failing to do so. He scored 25 runs but played 23 balls for this. As a result, Lucknow Super Giants won the match by 12 runs. However, Tilak’s retired out was not decided by captain Hardik Pandya, which was revealed after the match.
The start of Mumbai Indians was very bad while chasing 204 runs. In the absence of Rohit Sharma, Will Jacks (5) and Ryan Ricelton (10) started the innings but both batsmen returned to the pavilion on a score of 17. After this, Naman Dhir scored 46 runs in 24 balls, in which he hit 3 sixes and 4 fours. He shared a 69 -run partnership for the third wicket with Surya.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 67 runs in 43 balls with the help of 1 six and 9 fours. He added 66 runs with Tilak Verma but failed to put big shots himself. The team needed to win 52 runs in 24 balls but Surya was out on the very first ball of the 17th over. After this Hardik Pandya came. Tilak Verma was a set batsman but despite this he was unable to hit a big hit. Tilak Verma retired out of the fifth ball of the 19th over and went out.
Whose decision was to retiring Tilak Verma?
Mumbai Indians head coach Mahela Jayawardene confessed after the match that the decision to retired Tilak Verma was not of anyone else but his own. When Verma went out, Mumbai needed 24 runs in 7 balls to win.
Jayawardene said after the match, “Tilak wanted to score just, but he could not do it. We waited for the last few overs. He had spent some time on the field, so he should have succeeded in hitting big hits on those balls. I felt that in the end the new batsmen should come to play, he (Tilak Verma) was struggling.

Hardik Pandya said about Tilak Verma that, “We needed some hits, she was not able to find them. Some days come in cricket when you try but you can not succeed. Just play good cricket, I like to keep it simple. Take better decisions, be smart in bowling, be a chance in batting, take opportunity in batting. It is a long tournament, you get a long tournament, you get a long tournament.”
