By-elections will be held in 8 assembly seats of these 7 states along with Bihar, know when voting and when will the results come


The Election Commission on Monday (October 6, 2025) announced the by -election dates in seven states and union territories including Jammu and Kashmir. Voting in all seats will be held on 11 November 2025 on the same day, while counting of votes and results will be announced on 14 November.

These by -elections are required for many reasons. These include the resignation of MLAs in some seats, the death of the existing representatives on some and the disqualification on some. With the announcement of the election program, political activities in these areas have intensified and the ideal code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect.

  • By -elections will be held in two seats in Jammu and Kashmir. The first seat is from 27-Budgam, which is vacant by Omar Abdullah’s resignation. The second seat is 77-Nagrotha, where by-elections are being held after the death of Devendra Singh Rana.
  • The 193-eanta seat of Rajasthan has been vacant due to the disqualification of Kanwarlal.
  • The 45-Ghatshila (Scheduled Tribes) seat in Jharkhand is lying vacant after the death of Ramdas Soren.
  • The 61-Jubali Hills seat of Telangana is vacant due to the death of Maganti Gopinath.
  • In Punjab, 21-Varan Taran seat is going for the by-election after the death of Dr. Kashmir Singh Sohal.
  • Mizoram’s 2-Dampa (Scheduled Tribes) seat is vacant due to the death of Lalrintaluaga Cellia.
  • The 71-Nuapada seat of Odisha is vacant after the death of Rajendra Dholakia.

Nomination and withdrawal process
The Election Commission has also set a detailed program for the process of nomination and withdrawal. The Gazette notification for all seats will be released on 13 October. The last date for filing nominations for the seats of Jammu and Kashmir and Odisha will be October 20. The last date for nomination for the seats of Jharkhand, Mizoram, Punjab and Telangana has been fixed on October 21 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature in these states will be 24 October. The last date for nomination for Anta seat of Rajasthan has been kept on 21 October, while the candidates will be able to withdraw the name by October 27.
