Kartik Month 2025: Karthik’s holy month starts from October 8, know the special rules of this month

The month of Kartik begins after the end of Ashwin month. This is the eighth month of the Hindu calendar, which is especially dedicated to Lord Vishnu. The month of Kartik will start from Wednesday 8 October and will be till 5 November 2025.

In 30 days of Kartik month, many important fasts like Karva Chauth, Ahoi Ashtami, Dhanteras, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, Chhath Parv, Devauthani Ekadashi fall. Auspicious work done this month gives a lot of virtue. So know what to do in Kartik month and what not.

Bathing and lamp donation are important in Kartik month. So take a bath regularly. The river bathing this month is called Kartik Snan. You can also take a bath by mixing Ganga water at home.

Keep a fast in a special festival falling in Kartik month. The day of Devuthani Ekadashi is considered the most special in Kartik month. Because on this day Lord Vishnu wakes up from sleeping after four months and auspicious work starts.

Light a lamp of ghee and evening ghee for a full 30 days in the month of Kartik. Especially it is auspicious to light a lamp near Tulsi. Also, if there is a river or lake nearby, then definitely donate a lamp in the evening.

Along with this, some other rules should also be followed in the month of Kartik. Avoid carnivores this month. Do not consume smoking and alcoholism in Karthik. Consumption of pulses like urad, moong, lentils, peas and gram is also considered taboo in the month of Kartik. Along with this, garlic and onion should also be abandoned.

Brinjal and bitter gourd should not be eaten in Kartik. Except for the day of Narak Chaturdashi, applying oil on the body throughout the month is also prohibited. Avoid anger, jealousy, a sense of greed as well. Do not call the elders abusive.
