West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (8 October 2025) accused Union Home Minister Amit Shah that his work of functioning is like the acting Prime Minister. After returning from the flood and landslide affected North Bengal tour, he said, “I want to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi not to trust Amit Shah too much, who can become his Mir Jafar one day.”
CM Mamta Banerjee was giving reference to Mir Jafar, the 18th century commander of Bengal, who cheated Nawab Siraj -ud -Daula in the historic Plassy war and joined the British. Later he became the ruler of Bengal with the help of the British.
‘BJP’s intervention in Election Commission functioning’
In West Bengal, the ruling Trinamool Congress President accused the top leaders of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of interfering in the Election Commission’s functioning for special intensive revision (SIR) of voter lists in the election states.
He said, “A leader of his (BJP) meets a meeting and comes here and says that he will remove several lakh names from the voter list of Bengal.” Tell me, we are currently struggling with natural disasters, heavy rains, festivals etc. Can the SIR process be completed within 15 days under current circumstances and can new names be uploaded during that period? ”
He questioned whether the Election Commission should work at the behest of the BJP or should it work in the interest of democratic and civil rights of the people?
‘Amit Shah behaving like caretaker PM’
The Trinamool Congress President alleged, “All this is a game played by Amit Shah. He is behaving as if he is the acting Prime Minister of this country, but I am sad to say that PM Modi knows everything.
He said, “We can request the Prime Minister not to always trust Amit Shah. One day he will prove to be your biggest Mir Jafar. You have time to be cautious because it shows the day in the morning. ”She warned the BJP of destroying this country and warned that she will not always be in power. He said, “I have seen many governments in my life, but this kind of egoistic and dictatorial rule never showed me.”
