An earthquake of 7.4 magnitude has occurred in the Mindanao region of the Philippines. After this earthquake, officials have issued a tsunami warning and have also expressed the possibility of aftershocks. According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC), the depth of the earthquake was 62 kilometers (38.53 miles). The local administration has advised people living in coastal areas to move to higher places. Emergency services are on alert and citizens have been asked to follow government instructions.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said that the first tsunami waves may arrive between 09:43:54 am to 11:43:54 am (PST) on October 10, 2025, and these waves may continue for several hours.

According to Phivolcs, waves can reach a meter or more above normal tidal level and even greater heights in closed bays or narrow waterways, according to the local tsunami scenario database.

The earthquake struck a maritime area near Manay town in Davao Oriental, prompting Phivolcs to warn of possible aftershocks and damage. At present no immediate damage has been reported.

Last week’s earthquake tragedy

Just before this, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake had struck the Philippines’ Cebu province, killing at least 74 people and injuring dozens. This earthquake also completely destroyed the historic Parish of Saint Peter the Apostle, Bantayan.
