The auction of the next season of the Indian Premier League i.e. IPL 2026 can be conducted in the month of December. It is being told that the auction can be held between 13-15 December, BCCI has not yet taken the final decision on the date of the auction. Compared to IPL 2025, this time a ‘mini auction’ will be conducted, in which fewer players will be bid on than last time. In the same report of Cricbuzz, it was also told that the last date to retain players could be November 15.
According to Cricbuzz, it has not been decided yet whether the auction will be held abroad or in India itself. Sources believe that BCCI can organize ‘mini auction’ in India itself, but the situation regarding this is not clear.
Deadline for retention list
According to reports, all the teams will have to release their respective retention lists by 15th November. By this date, teams will have to submit the list of players whom they want to release. There is not much possibility of change in many players in the teams.
Who can be released?
There is speculation that Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, Sam Curran and star batsman Devon Conway may also be released before the ‘mini auction’. In the past months, speculations about Sanju Samson being traded have also gained momentum. It has also been reported that Rajasthan Royals can release their 2 main spin bowlers, Wanindu Hasaranga and Mahish Tikshana. However, next season Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara will be the head coach of the RR team, so Hasaranga and Teekshana may not be released.
These players can get a new team
Some other players including Mitchell Starc, Akashdeep, T Natarajan, Mayank Yadav and David Miller can join the new team, but nothing is clear on this. The blame may also fall on Venkatesh Iyer, who was bought by KKR last season with a bid of Rs 23.75 crore. There are speculations that Cameron Green could become one of the most expensive players in the auction.
