The Indian cricket team has played the World Test Championship final twice. On both the occasions he had to face huge defeat. Ravichandran Ashwin also played one of those finals. Ashwin has revealed the biggest reason why Team India could not become champion even after reaching the finals twice. He has blamed this on IPL. In the 2021 final, New Zealand took 8 wickets and two years later, the Indian team suffered a huge defeat of 209 runs at the hands of Australia.
Blame on IPL
While discussing on his YouTube channel, Ravichandran Ashwin says that right after IPL, the Indian team has played the World Test Championship final twice. He said that it is not easy to play the finals right after the IPL and that is why the Indian team could not become champion. The former Indian off-spin bowler said that Test cricket should be given enough respect and it is also necessary to practice a lot for it.
Reason for bad condition of West Indies team
India vs West Indies first test ended on the third day itself. In that match, Team India won by an innings and 140 runs. The condition of the Caribbean team is not good in the second test also. Ravichandran Ashwin has also attributed the bad condition of the West Indies team to franchise T20 cricket.
Ashwin said, “The biggest problem is the way the West Indies are looking at Test cricket. Before the Test series against India, the West Indies players were busy in the CPL till September 22. They came here just a few days after the CPL ended. How many days would they have got for preparation. The team did not make any new preparations.”
