Earthquake tremors were felt for the second time in the Southern Philippines on Friday (October 10, 2025), whose intensity was 6.9. This is the same area where an earthquake of 7.6 magnitude occurred in the morning. According to officials, this time the earthquake occurred at 7:12 pm (4:42 pm Indian time).

The earthquake was the second earthquake to hit the area in less than 10 hours, prompting the Philippines’ seismological office to issue warnings of deadly waves and urge coastal residents to immediately evacuate or move farther inland.

Strongest among 300 earthquakes

This earthquake in the Philippines was the strongest among about 300 tremors recorded so far. This aftershock occurred within 10 hours of the main earthquake. At least 6 people have died in the previous earthquake. It came due to movement in a fault present under the ground, whose depth was only 10 kilometers.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center (Honolulu) has said that there is a possibility of dangerous waves (tsunami) in the sea within a radius of about 300 kilometers from the epicenter of the earthquake. It has been said that waves up to 3 meters (10 feet) above normal tide may arise in some coastal areas of the Philippines and smaller waves are also possible in Indonesia and Palau.

Appeal to stay away from ports and coastal areas

Office of Civil Defense Deputy Administrator Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV warned that tsunami waves could hit six coastal provinces along Davao Oriental within two hours of the earthquake. He has appealed to the people to immediately go to higher places or move inland away from the coastal areas.

“Boat owners in ports and in coastal areas should keep their boats safe and move away from the shore,” Alejandro said in a video news briefing. The Philippines is still recovering from a magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck on September 30, killing at least 74 people and displacing thousands in central Cebu province, especially Bogo city and surrounding towns.
