In October 2023, Palestinian fighters of Hamas infiltrated into Israel from Gaza. After this they attacked the Nova Open-Air Music Festival and surrounding areas, in which 378 people were killed. Two years after surviving the massacre, an Israeli man whose girlfriend was killed in front of his eyes committed suicide. The body of 30-year-old Roi Shalev was found in her burnt car a few days after the second anniversary. A few hours before his death, he had posted a message online, saying that he could no longer live.
Crying Shalev wrote message on social media
On October 10, three days after the second anniversary of the Hamas attack, a tearful Shalev posted a message on social media, which worried his friends and family. In the message he wrote, “Please don’t be angry with me. No one will ever understand me completely and that’s okay. I just want this suffering to end. I’m alive, but everything inside is dead.” A few hours later he was found dead inside his burning car in Tel Aviv. It was told that he was seen buying fuel from a can on the same day.
Shalev’s mother has also committed suicide
Shalev’s mother also committed suicide after the Hamas attack. On the day of the massacre, Shalev, Adam and their best friend Hilly Solomon tried to hide under a car when it was attacked at the festival. Shalev tried to protect Mapple Adam by lying on top of him and both pretended to be dead for hours, but both were shot and Adam died on the spot.
Mapal Adam’s sister Mayan shared a photo of her sister and Shalev on social media. He wrote in the caption, “Roi was murdered on October 7 itself. I have no words and it will take time to find them. Hopefully both of them are now hugging and smiling at each other. Their hearts are connected to each other again.”
