An international peace conference was held in Egypt’s Sharm el-Sheikh resort on Monday (October 13) to end the Gaza war. It was attended by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Chancellor of Germany, Emir of Qatar, President of Egypt, Prime Minister of Italy Georgia Meloni, and heads of Britain, France and Jordan. The main objective of the conference was to stop the ongoing conflict in Gaza and find a direction for lasting peace in the region.
Erdogan asked this question to Georgia Meloni
Erdogan appeared quite active and sociable during the conference. He held bilateral talks with many leaders and kept the atmosphere light. He humorously told Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni that she should quit smoking. During this time, French President Emmanuel Macron was also nearby and his laughter was heard.
Meloni smiled and replied that if she quit smoking, perhaps she would become less social. Erdogan also said on the occasion that Turkey is working towards a ‘smoke-free future’ and wherever he goes he encourages people to quit smoking.
The most discussed issue in the conference was the absence of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. His office had already clarified that he would not participate in it. According to sources, Erdogan and some other leaders objected to his possible participation.

What did US President Donald Trump say?
In the joint meeting, US President Donald Trump and Egyptian President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi sent online messages appealing to all parties to exercise restraint and increase humanitarian aid.
The Sharm el-Sheikh conference proved to be an important diplomatic forum amid the Middle East crisis, where all countries reiterated that lasting peace in Gaza is possible only if all parties abandon violence and adopt the path of dialogue.
