If we talk about village level data then this change is quite big. In 2011, Dhakrani used to be 60% Hindu and 40% Muslim. But now the Muslim population here has increased to 60% and the Hindu population has fallen to 40%. Similarly, once the Hindu population in Dhalipur was 75%, but today both the Hindu and Muslim populations are at 50-50 percent. Timli and Kushalpur now have 95% and 96% Muslims, whereas in 2011 there used to be 75% and 90% Muslims. Not only this, even in villages with balanced population like Dharmawala and Jeevangarh, now the Muslim population is equal or slightly more than that of Hindus. There are about 28 such villages in Pachhua Doon alone where the Muslim population has increased and the Hindu population has decreased.

In fact, after continuous reports of population imbalance came to light, this issue was investigated and family registers were scrutinized. Investigation revealed that in order to save their position, the Muslim village heads, in connivance with the Gram Sabha officials, got the names of their relatives registered in the family registers here. Although after the girl’s marriage outside Uttarakhand, her name should have been removed from the family register, but here the names of the family members are still registered. Not only this, names of sons-in-law and children have also been registered in the register.
After this demographic change, the concern of Uttarakhand government has also increased. Population change was continuously seen in the village in the area of Pachhwa Doon. The areas where Hindu population was high before the formation of the state, now have high Muslim population. All the people whose names have been included in the family register are availing government facilities and their names are also in the voter list. Not only this, but their Aadhar card and ration card are also intact.
