The Indian cricket team defeated the visiting West Indies by 7 wickets in the second test played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. India won this match on the fifth day. After Team India’s victory, head coach Gautam Gambhir raised questions on the Delhi pitch. Gambhir expressed disappointment about the Delhi pitch.

Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir said after winning the two-match Test series 2-0, “I believe that we could have got a better pitch here. We got the result of the match on the fifth day, but I feel that after taking the edge of the bat, the ball should have reached the wicketkeeper or the slip fielders.”

Emphasizing the importance of Bumrah and Siraj, Gambhir said, “I know we keep talking about the important role of spinners, but when you have two great fast bowlers, you want them to make important contributions in the match.”

Usually the pitch in Delhi is helpful for spinners, but against West Indies, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar did not get any help. The batsmen were easily playing the slow balls of the spinners on the backfoot. Gambhir said, “The pitch should have some pace and bounce. But there was nothing like that in the pitch here, it is disappointing.” He further said, “We can use better pitches in future, because it is the responsibility of all of us to save Test cricket.”

It is noteworthy that the Delhi pitch proved helpful for the batsmen. Team India declared the first innings at 518 runs. After this, Kuldeep Yadav opened his claws and the West Indies team could score only 248 runs in the first innings. India followed on. After this, West Indies scored 390 runs in the second innings and gave India a target of 121 runs, which Team India achieved by losing 3 wickets in the first session on the fifth day.
