Tension has increased again on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, where heavy clashes are taking place between Taliban fighters and the Pakistani army. This struggle has gained momentum especially in Spin Boldak area. The fighting between the two sides started around 4 am today and a video of the Spin Boldak-Chaman border crossing has been shared on social media, showing a glimpse of the situation on the border.

Spin Boldak is an important area located on the border of Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is connected via highway to Kandahar in the north and Chaman and Quetta cities of Pakistan in the south. Chaman border crossing towards the west comes in the south-east of the area. The Afghan Taliban claims that within just 15 minutes of the encounter with Pakistani soldiers, the Taliban forced their opponents to surrender and confiscated their weapons. A video also shows that this action was completed within 15 minutes of the start of the fight.

Ali Mohammad Hakmal, information head of Spin Boldak district, said that both light and heavy weapons are being used in this clash. No official number of casualties has been released yet, but according to reports, many houses have been destroyed due to Pakistani artillery shelling and local people have been forced to leave the area.

What did Afghanistan’s National Security Council say?

Kabir Hakmal of the National Security Council of Afghanistan said that there have been fierce clashes in this area between the Taliban and the Pakistani Army. Many houses were destroyed and the Pakistani Army is reportedly using heavy weapons and air power near the Durand Line. No official statement has come from either side yet.
