In the Women’s World Cup, Pakistan missed the opportunity to defeat England due to rain in the match played between Pakistan and England at R Premadasa Cricket Stadium in Colombo on Wednesday. Pakistan captain Fatima Sana looked disappointed by this.
After the match, Fatima said, “This was the day when we could have beaten them. This pitch was good for the fast bowlers. I have seen many performances on this pitch, so I knew it would be helpful for the fast bowlers. I just tried to bowl in the right places and hit the stumps. But I would have been happier if we had won the match.”
Fatima praised her top order and said that Muniba and Omaima batted well. In the last two matches, we did well with the ball. We just need to improve our batting. Hopefully we will do that.
England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt said, “Their team lost in the early stages. Pakistan bowled brilliantly. Fatima and Diana bowled brilliantly and made it difficult for us to stay in the match. There was a break due to rain. I thought Charlie and M batted well in the last six overs which allowed us to reach that score. We did not play well. We have to adjust quickly to the new grounds and conditions.”
Due to rain, the match was reduced to 31 overs instead of 50. England had scored 133 runs for 9 wickets in 31 overs. Pakistan was given a target of 113 under the Duckworth-Lewis rule. Pakistan had scored 34 runs in 6.4 overs without any loss, when the rain started again. After waiting for a long time, the umpires canceled the match, distributing 1-1 points between both the teams.
Pakistan had a chance to register its first win in the World Cup. The team has lost its three previous matches. After the cancellation of this match, Pakistan’s chances of reaching the semi-finals have become very less.
