As the festive season is approaching, huge crowd of passengers is being seen at the railway stations of the country. To control this crowd and make the travel of passengers safe and easy, Indian Railways has taken a big step. In view of the upcoming Diwali and Chhath Puja 2025, Railways has decided to temporarily suspend the sale of platform tickets at 15 major stations of the country including Delhi and Mumbai. Railways says that this decision has been taken only for crowd control and safety, so that unnecessary crowd does not gather on the platform and it becomes easier for the passengers to board and deboard the trains.
The rule will remain in effect till October 28!
According to Railways, the ban on sale of platform tickets will remain effective till October 28, 2025. However, platform tickets will be issued for senior citizens, sick passengers, children and women passengers requiring assistance. This means that passengers who cannot travel without the help of a family member will not face any kind of problem. The Railway Board has said in its instructions that this step is necessary to control the crowd in the station premises during the festive rush.
Platform tickets will not be available at these stations!
This rule has already been implemented at major railway stations of Delhi, New Delhi, Old Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, Anand Vihar Terminal and Ghaziabad. Whereas in Mumbai region, the sale of platform tickets will also be banned at busy stations like CSMT, Dadar, LTT (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus), Thane, Kalyan and Panvel from October 16, 2025. Railways has appealed to the passengers to plan their journey in advance and not to crowd the station premises unnecessarily.
