Akhilesh Yadav’s statement regarding lighting lamps and candles on Diwali has created an all-round uproar. BJP leaders have started surrounding the SP President. In this context, senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, while talking to news agency ANI on Sunday (October 19, 2025), said that Akhilesh Yadav’s statement of not lighting lamps on Diwali is condemnable. This festival is a symbol of happiness, it reflects the cultural and religious diversity of India. Such statements reflect his frustration.
Taking aim at Akhilesh Yadav, BJP spokesperson Ajay Alok said that he is going to become a Christian like a rhinoceros very soon. Lord Shri Ram and Krishna also do not have any problem. Why are you too worried? The burden on Hindu religion has increased a lot.

‘This statement of Akhilesh Yadav is shocking’
BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya, while re-posting Akhilesh Yadav’s statement on X, wrote that this statement of Akhilesh Yadav is not only shocking but also shows insensitivity towards our festivals. He told that the SP chief has said, “All over the world, cities are illuminated with lights on Christmas, we should learn from them. What is the point of spending money on lamps and candles? The government should be removed and we will install more beautiful lights.”

‘It is an insult to Hindu faith’
Amit Malviya said that Diwali is a symbol of our cultural and spiritual values. It is not just a festival of lights, but gives the message of victory of light over darkness. Diyas and candles are a part of our tradition, in which the spirit and devotion of every home is attached. Calling them “waste of money” is not only unfair but also an insult to Hindu faith. He further wrote that instead of comparing festivals, Akhilesh Yadav should respect the diverse traditions of India. This is true secularism.
‘They should be called Antony or Akbar’
Madhya Pradesh Cabinet Minister Vishwas Sarang also targeted Akhilesh Yadav and questioned his remarks on Diwali. Sarang said, ‘How can a person named Akhilesh say such things? I think he should be called Antony or Akbar. I wonder how anyone can oppose Diwali puja and lighting of lamps.
