US President Donald Trump has said that no strict deadline has been set for disarming Hamas under the Gaza ceasefire agreement. However, he also made it clear that if Hamas does not lay down its arms, then America, its allies or Israel can take action.
Trump said, ‘They (Hamas) have said they will do this… If necessary, we will disarm them. Whether I do it, America does it or our proxy – Israel with our support. Our soldiers will not participate in ground operations.
This is an important issue for Hamas in Gaza peace agreement
When Trump was asked in an interview with Fox News whether there was any fixed deadline for disarming Hamas, he said, ‘There is no hard line… We will see how the situation progresses.’ When asked if he believed that Hamas would actually lay down its arms, he said, ‘They have agreed to do so. But if this does not happen then strict steps will be taken.
First phase of Gaza ceasefire deal implemented
The first phase of a 20-point ceasefire agreement in Gaza was agreed upon between Israel and Hamas earlier this month on Trump’s proposal. This phase involves the release of Palestinian prisoners in exchange for the release of Israeli hostages. This plan also talks about the reconstruction of Gaza and the establishment of a new administrative structure without Hamas.
More than 68,000 Palestinians were killed
Since October 2023, about 68,000 Palestinians have died in Gaza in Israeli attacks, most of whom are women and children. Continuous attacks have made Gaza almost uninhabitable.
