If your periods are irregular, meaning sometimes after 35 days, sometimes not for 2 months, or very light or very heavy, then it can be a sign not only of stress or fatigue but also of PCOS. This happens because in PCOS the egg is not produced on time, due to which the entire menstrual cycle gets disrupted. If you do not get periods continuously for 2-3 months, or if you have very heavy and prolonged periods, then immediately get yourself checked by a doctor.

You are eating well and exercising, but your weight is still increasing. Fat is accumulating especially around the stomach. This may be due to insulin resistance, which is very common in PCOS. In this, the body is not able to process sugar properly, and weight starts increasing rapidly. If weight increases even after eating a little diet, or old clothes do not fit, then do not take it lightly.

If thick, black hair has started growing on your face, especially on the chin, upper lip or chest, then this is a direct sign of hormonal disturbance. In PCOS, the amount of androgen in the body increases, which causes hair growth in women like men. If you have to do waxing or shaving frequently, then the problem may not be in the hair roots but in hormones.

Pimples can happen to anyone, but if they occur repeatedly on the chin, jaw or neck and no cream, medicine or home remedy works. So this can be a sign of PCOS. Its reason is also increased androgen hormones in the body. Which make the skin excessively oily. If pimples are not leaving you even after teenage, then definitely get a hormone test done.

While on one hand PCOS brings the problem of unwanted hair, on the other hand it also makes the hair on the head thin and weak. If your ponytail has become thinner than before, or the rate of hair fall has suddenly increased, then it is not due to age or stress. If excessive hair fall occurs while brushing or a part of the head becomes visible, then get the hormones checked.

If dark or velvet-like patches have started appearing on some parts of your skin like the back of the neck, armpits or waist, then this is not just a skin problem, but an alarm of insulin resistance in your body. In medical language it is called Acanthosis Nigricans and it is directly related to PCOS. Don’t ignore these patches. These can be a sign of imbalance of both sugar and hormones.

Due to PCOS, ovulation in women is not regular, which can cause problems in pregnancy. If you have been trying for a long time but are not getting results, then this could also be due to PCOS. If you do not conceive even after trying for 6-12 months, then get checked by a fertility expert.

PCOS affects not only physically but also mentally. Sometimes its effect can be seen in always feeling tired, feeling sad without any reason, mood swings, insomnia or excessive sleep. If these symptoms appear, it may be that your body as well as hormones are necessary for help.
