The Gaza ceasefire is on the verge of breaking. US Vice President JD Vance and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu discussed this matter on Wednesday (22 October 2025). After attending this meeting, Netanyahu said that Israel decides its own security and is not dependent on America. JD Vance acknowledged that maintaining peace in this region is a big challenge.
What is the Trump administration afraid of?
There are concerns within the Trump administration that Netanyahu may consider withdrawing from the Gaza agreement, which could lead to a resumption of large-scale war. JD Vance, close to Trump, has reached Israel as part of efforts to strengthen the ceasefire. JD Vance emphasized the challenges of disarming Hamas as well as rebuilding Gaza to improve the lives of residents there.
Israel is not America’s slave: Netanyahu
Netanyahu said that Israel is not a slave or subordinate country of America. He called such things nonsense. Netanyahu said, “Some people think that America runs Israel. Some people think that Israel runs America. All this is nonsense. We are both strong partners.”
According to the report of news agency Associated Press, JD Vance said, “We have a very difficult task in front of us. One is to disarm Hamas and second is to rebuild Gaza and improve the lives of the people there. We also have to ensure that Hamas is no longer a threat to our Israeli friends. However, this is not easy.”
Expansion of Abraham Accords will bring stability: JD Vance
Vance also met with relatives of Israeli hostages during his visit. He was also accompanied by US Ambassador to the Middle East Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Israeli government has announced that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio will visit Israel to meet with Netanyahu on Friday (October 24, 2025).
JD Vance said, “We want Israel as an ally and America has less interest in the Middle East. Extending the Abraham Accords will bring regional stability, which will hopefully last for a long time.” Netanyahu said, “Over the past year we have had an unmatched alliance with America. It is changing the Middle East.”
