Kolkata Police arrested 316 people on Tuesday (October 21, 2025), a day after Diwali, for indecent behavior and violating the law, including burning banned firecrackers. An official said that during the raid on Tuesday, more than 180 kg of banned firecrackers and more than 30 liters of illicit liquor were also seized.
Police arrested 273 people for indecent behavior and 43 for burning banned firecrackers. He said that Kolkata Traffic Police on Tuesday issued challans to 366 people for various crimes.
Total number of cases in the city on the second day of Diwali
Kolkata Police has arrested 153 other people for violating various laws during the celebrations on the second day after Diwali, including inappropriate behavior and releasing banned fireworks. An official gave this information on Thursday (October 23, 2025).
Of the total arrests made on Wednesday, 146 people were arrested for indecent behaviour, while seven people were arrested for bursting banned firecrackers. The officer said no arrests have been made for any gambling-related crime. The police also initiated 383 traffic cases during this period.
Police seized fireworks material
During this operation, police officials also seized 16.95 kg of banned fireworks material and 14.4 liters of illicit liquor. The officer said that among the traffic violation cases, 85 cases are of driving without helmet. Besides, there were 37 cases of pillion riding without helmet, 73 cases of careless driving and 64 cases of drunk driving. There are 124 such cases which were involved in ‘other’ category crimes.
