Explosion on Singapore-Flagged Ship: The news of a loud explosion has come to light in the Singapore flag container ship MV Wan Hai 503, away from the coast of Kerala. This information was given by Mumbai -based Marine Operations Center (MOC) to its counterpart center at Kochi at around 10:30 am. The ship is 270 meters long and its draft is stated to be 12.5 meters. The vessel left Colombo on 7 June and was expected to reach Mumbai on 10 June.
Explosion occurred in the underdec of the ship
According to the information received, the explosion occurred in the underdeck under the ship. At the time of the incident, the ship was near the Kerala coast in the sea. No casualties have been reported so far, but in view of the seriousness of the situation, vigilance has been increased.
Navy’s immediate action, INS Surat turned on
According to the Defense PRO, sensing the seriousness of the situation, the Indian Navy gave quick response and the INS Surat in Kochi was diverted to the spot to immediately assist the ship. This decision was taken by Western Naval Command at 11 am.
Preparation to send aircraft to assess the situation
Along with this, a Dornier Aircraft flight from INS Garuda naval air station in Kochi on behalf of the Navy is also under the plan, which will reach the spot and assess the situation and provide necessary coordination. Indian Navy and maritime agencies are constantly monitoring the situation. Efforts are on for rescue and relief work.
Kerala government directed necessary preparations
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of Kerala has instructed the State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) to instruct the district collectors of Ernakulam and Kozhikode for necessary preparations. The Chief Minister has asked to ensure that if the crew members of the ship are brought to the coast of Kerala, they can be provided medical facilities immediately. KSDMA has laid down local hospitals and emergency services on alert, as well as people living in coastal areas have been advised to be vigilant.
