In Jammu and Kashmir, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Mehraj Malik has been arrested under the Public Safety Act (PSA). He has been shifted to Bhadarwah District Jail. Doda MLA Malik is accused of misbehaving, provoking youth and obstructing relief work. He is the first current MLA to be arrested under PSA.
PSA is an administrative law that allows to keep in custody for 2 years without accusations or hearing in some cases.
Malik’s Facebook account was claimed at around two o’clock that the arrest had been made. The video has also been shared on Facebook. In which Mehraj Malik is surrounded by policemen and is saying that the administration has come down on hooliganism. We will suppress as you want. They will not let justice run.
Malik tells the policemen that I will not sit in the car. Let me do my work Let me help people. I am an MLA. You are not ashamed. After this, the police forced them to sit in the car.
Sanjay Singh condemns
AAP MP Sanjay Singh has condemned the arrest of Mehraj Malik. He said that Malik is raising his voice for the hospital in his area, he has been arrested by the Jammu and Kashmir Police. This is the dictatorship of governance, Malik is not afraid of such cowardly action.
Mehraj Malik is the only AAP MLA
Mehraj Malik is the only MLA in Jammu and Kashmir. He received 23,228 votes in the 2024 assembly elections. He defeated BJP candidate Gajay Singh Rana. Rana got 18,690 votes. National Conference candidate Khalid Najeeb got 13,334 votes.
Mehraj Malik won the election of District Development Council from Kahara constituency of Doda on 24 December 2020. He resigned after victory in the assembly elections.
