Bollywood actor Abhishek Bachchan has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court demanding a ban on the misuse of his name and image in his name. He has said that some websites and social media channels are misusing their identity without permission and this is harming their image.
The lawyer appearing for Abhishek Bachchan told the Delhi High Court that the actor has worked in more than 60 films so far. He has received 57 awards, out of which 9 are Filmfare Awards. At the same time, he is also associated with the sports world and has been promoting big events like Kabaddi League and Indian Super League.
The lawyer said that online platforms are being misused
During the hearing in the Delhi High Court, Abhishek Bachchan’s counsel alleged that many companies and online platforms are doing fake merchandising in his name. In some places, a picture of his fake posts and autographs is being sold. Apart from this, fake and objectionable videos have been made using artificial intelligence, which can harm their image.
Delhi High Court indicated action
During the hearing of the case, the Delhi High Court, if Abhishek Bachchan’s team will submit a list of different links, then Google and other platforms can be instructed to remove them. Justice Tejas Karia, who heard the case in the Delhi High Court, also said that it would be difficult to issue notice directly until the real identity of the people using Abhishek Bachchan’s pictures.
Google’s lawyer said that the picture is ready to remove the picture
The lawyer appearing on behalf of Google in Delhi High Court said that most of the links have been uploaded by some special defendants and Google is ready to remove them. During the hearing of the case in the same Delhi High Court, Abhishek Bachchan’s lawyer assured the court that he will present the complete list of all the links and websites separately. The Delhi High Court will now hold the next hearing of this case on 15 January 2025.
