The Madhya Pradesh government on Thursday sent a proposal to the Central government recommending the dismissal of Scheduled Caste-Tribe Officers and Employees Association (AJAX) state president and Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Santosh Verma for his ‘beyond the bounds’ comments. According to an official statement, along with this, the General Administration Department (GDA) of Madhya Pradesh removed Verma from the post of Deputy Secretary of Agriculture Department and ‘attached’ him to GDA without any department and without any work.

In fact, Verma had said in a program in Bhopal on 23 November, “My son should get reservation until a Brahmin donates his daughter.” A video of his statement was quickly circulated on social media and then anger spread in the Brahmin community. After this comment of Verma, demand for action against him was being raised not only in the state but across the country.

Not only this, angry over Verma’s remarks, 65 Brahmin organizations united and announced to protest outside the ministry on Friday and gherao the Chief Minister’s residence on December 14 and also said that if action is not taken despite this, preparations will be made for a state bandh.

IAS Santosh Verma had also given a statement regarding the High Court

Meanwhile, another comment by Verma added fuel to the fire when he said while addressing a program that “No one else but the High Court is allowing the children of ST category to become civil judges… It is the High Court from which we seek guarantee of following the Constitution.” As soon as the video related to his comment surfaced, the controversy flared up and the pressure on the government increased.

After this, it was said in a statement that Chief Minister Mohan Yadav took cognizance of the Santosh Verma case and directed the GAD to take strict action. The statement said that Verma prepared fake and forged promotion orders from the State Administrative Service to the Indian Administrative Service and criminal cases are pending against him in various courts.

The statement said, ‘The promotion of IAS taken on the basis of fake documents and fraud is wrong. Therefore, the proposal for dismissal from IAS is being sent to the Central Government. Shortly after this, the government sent this proposal to the Centre. The government said that the departmental investigation against Verma for the allegation of obtaining integrity certificate on the basis of forged and fake documents is at the final stage and in the present case, the reply submitted by him to the show cause notice letter is not satisfactory.

State government cannot dismiss IAS officers

The government said that he is continuously issuing statements without dignity, hence it was decided to issue him a ‘charge sheet’. An official said that the state government can suspend IAS officers but cannot dismiss them because this power rests with the central government, which comes into effect after the signature by the President.
